Tameshigiri is using a real Japanese sword (called Katana) for test cutting on rolls of bamboo matting. This practice was popularized in the Edo period (17th century) for testing the quality of Japanese swords. And by trying Tameshigiri you can learn how to use a real Japanese sword from a Japanese Iaido Master in Naha, Okinawa.

2. Practice: Cut rolls of bamboo matting by using a real Japanese sword.
