Ever since the concept of ‘Blue Zones’ was introduced by National Geographic, highlighting five regions in the world where a significant number of people live to be over 100 years old, attention has been focused on healthy lifestyles, dietary habits, and social connections within these Blue Zones. Research is being conducted worldwide. Okinawa is one of the world’s five major Blue Zones known for longevity. Our company has developed a program where participants can learn healthy lifestyle habits from the Blue Zone in Okinawa, aiming to promote the health of those who join our tours.
Based on a lifestyle survey of centenarians, in which I also participated, the key factors for health and longevity learned from the centenarians in the Blue Zone Okinawa have been summarized. These factors include “having a sense of purpose,” “maintaining a plant-based diet,” “engaging in agricultural work,” “consuming a lot of soy,” “getting sunlight,” “being physically active,” “creating a medicinal garden,” and “having a strong will.” Among these, the presence of “connections” or social capital is particularly noteworthy. In the world of longevity research, the most prominent factor in recent years is social capital, or simply put, the “power of connections.” Centenarians in the world’s top 5 longevity regions, the Blue Zones, consistently have strong connections with family, friends, acquaintances, and the local community. Mutual support in these connections brings mental stability, reduces stress, and fosters the will to live. The centenarians in the Blue Zone Okinawa also value their connection to nature with reverence, intergenerational lifestyle continuity (connection with the wisdom of ancestors), mutual assistance, and community ties, resulting in achieving healthy longevity.
In the aftermath of the once-in-a-century disaster known as the post-corona era, it is of great significance to reexamine the wisdom of our predecessors who have lived through a century. Okinawa, a tourist island, is also the only Blue Zone island in Asia. Through “Blue Zone Okinawa Karate Tourism,” let’s connect with Okinawa’s spiritual culture, the wisdom of ancestors, the nature of Okinawa, and the lifestyle culture of Okinawa.
Our hope is that you not only discover the secrets of longevity but also return with wisdom for living and hints for a way of life.
The Secrets of
Health and Longevity
Okinawa is the birthplace of karate. Okinawan karate places great emphasis on mastering ‘kata’ and is built on efficient techniques that combine offense and defense seamlessly. It’s a martial art that can be improved over time regardless of physical condition, allowing individuals to practice it throughout their lives. Okinawa has numerous town dojos deeply rooted in daily life, where people of all ages, from beginners to advanced practitioners, come to train. While enhancing their connections with fellow students, they engage in physical activity and lead healthy lives through Okinawan karate.
Participants in this tour have the opportunity to learn authentic Okinawan karate in an intensive, short-term program, and they are provided with an environment to continue practicing it upon returning home.
The Secrets of a Rich Heart
Okinawa, nurtured within a rich natural environment, is a popular travel destination known for providing ultimate relaxation due to its unique culture and atmosphere. It consistently ranks within the top 5 in Japan’s domestic travel popularity rankings. The accommodation for this tour, ‘Hyakuna Garan,’ is located in the southern part of Okinawa’s main island, a place of great significance as a sanctuary since the time of the Ryukyu Kingdom. Guests will stay in rooms with stunning views of both sunrise and sunset, soak in private open-air baths, and savor special dishes made from local ingredients. Additionally, through private tours of Sefa Utaki, one of the most important sacred sites dating back to the Ryukyu Kingdom, as well as meditation and teachings from Buddhist monks in a Zen temple established during the Ryukyu Kingdom era, and engaging in conversations with locals, you can experience a healthy state of mind.
The Secrets of Beauty
In Okinawa, for a long time, people have been cultivating medicinal plants lik turmeric and mugwort in their gardens and incorporating seaweeds such as mozuku and aosa into their daily diets. Today, there is ongoing development of easily consumable supplements and health foods, which are distributed nationwide in Japan, establishing Okinawa as a prominent brand for these products. Furthermore, in recent times, there has been resource development of deep-sea water, which is known for its high purity and rich mineral content, garnering attention as a new resource for beauty and health. Participants in this tour can increase their knowledge of health and beauty practices rooted in Okinawa by visiting well-known supplement and deep-sea water production facilities in Japan, allowing them to choose products tailored to their needs.
“To ensure a perfect stay, we will conduct a prearrival consultation to hear your preferences and arrange activities accordingly.”
